Network Information Test

Read the connection info your browser exposes — online state, effective type and estimated RTT/downlink. Clearly labeled estimates.

Runs locally No uploadWorks on mobile

These values come from the Network Information API where supported. Downlink and RTT are coarse browser estimates, not precise measurements, and support varies by browser.

How this test works

Network tests stay deliberately lightweight and independent. Latency and stability tests send small, cache-busted requests to this site’s own endpoint and time the round trip; the information test reads the browser’s Network Information API where available.

We measure only against our own server or CDN, never a third party, and we rate-limit requests so the test is gentle on your connection. Everything aborts the moment you leave the page.

These are estimates of your connection to this website, not a universal internet speed test or a measurement of any other service.

How to use it

  1. Open the test — no permission is required.
  2. For latency or stability, press Start and let the samples collect.
  3. Watch the median, jitter and any failed requests update live.
  4. Press Stop at any time; the test also aborts if you navigate away.

What it detects

  • Round-trip latency and jitter to this website’s server or CDN
  • Dropouts and timeouts over a chosen duration
  • The browser’s online state and, where exposed, effective connection type
  • Coarse browser estimates of downlink and RTT

What it can’t detect

  • Your true internet download/upload speed (this isn’t a full speed test)
  • Latency to services other than this website
  • Problems inside your ISP’s network beyond what round-trips reveal

Troubleshooting

SymptomWhat to do
High or spiky latencyTry a wired connection, move closer to your router, and close bandwidth-heavy apps.
Frequent failed requestsYou may be offline or behind a captive portal; check other sites and your Wi-Fi.
Connection info shows nothingThe Network Information API isn’t supported in every browser; that’s expected.
Results vary each runLatency naturally fluctuates with network load and distance to the server; take several samples.

FAQ

Is this a full speed test?

No. We intentionally keep network tests lightweight and measure only against our own endpoint.

Does it contact third parties?

No. Only this site’s own endpoints are used.

Why do results vary?

Latency depends on your connection, distance to the server, and current load, so values fluctuate.

Does it use a lot of data?

No. Requests are small and rate-limited, and the test stops when you leave the page.

Why is latency higher than a ping tool?

A browser request includes extra processing the operating-system ping skips, so it can read a bit higher.

Can I trust the effective connection type?

Treat it as a coarse hint. It’s a browser estimate with limited, varying support.
